FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Muhammad Wilkersons big left toe will likely keep him off the field for the New York Jets. The star defensive end has turf toe that has sidelined him all week at practice, and Wilkerson said Friday he expects to miss the teams game Monday night against the Miami Dolphins. It feels a little bit better than Monday, so thats a good start, Wilkerson said. Im just happy that I dont have to have surgery, so thats a good thing to hear.Wilkerson received the news about not needing surgery on Friday, but its uncertain when he might be able to play again this season. He is still in a walking boot and the toe was heavily wrapped when he spoke to reporters. Its just an injury thats going to take some time, Wilkerson said. Its all about feeling comfortable and making sure that it feels good. Of course, I dont want to get back out there quick and mess it up again and do more damage to it.The injury occurred midway through the second quarter of the Jets 38-3 loss to Buffalo last Monday night when his foot got stuck in the turf at Detroits Ford Field. He came back briefly, but then sat out the entire second half and watched from the sideline.I just couldnt push off my foot, Wilkerson said. Rather than keep playing and making the injury worse, I just had to call it and had to sit down.Wilkerson, who leads the team with 4 1/2 sacks, said the game against Miami will likely be the first he has ever missed at any level of football.Ill try to come back whenever I feel comfortable that its good that I can get off the ball, Wilkerson said, and I feel comfortable running. The loss of Wilkerson is a tough hit to the Jets defence, but the line is one area where New York has quite a bit of depth. Quinton Coples, a hybrid linebacker-defensive end, will likely see more snaps on the line in Wilkersons place, along with backup Leger Douzable.Hes one of the best players in the league, so anytime you lose a guy of that calibre, its going to hurt, defensive co-ordinator Dennis Thurman said of Wilkerson. You dont get emotional about it. You replace him and you move on and you prepare the individuals because you know we have a couple options, different ways we can go. You prepare those guys to get ready and go do battle.Jace Amaro, who leads NFL rookie tight ends in catches and yards receiving, will also likely miss the game with what coach Rex Ryan confirmed is a concussion. Amaro is currently going through the NFLs protocol for head injuries, so the fact he still hasnt practiced doesnt bode well for his chances of playing.Backup quarterback Michael Vick missed practice with an illness, but should be available for the game against the Dolphins. Fullback John Conner (groin) and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson (back) were limited, but are also expected to be fine.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLDiscount NBA Jerseys . But now the 38-year-old quarterback can give his youngest son, four-year-old Barron, the opportunity to learn about the Cups rich history. "I asked Barron on Thursday night when we were talking, Do you know what the Grey Cup is, and he was like, Daddy, no, I dont know what it is," Burris said. "When he said that, I almost went to tears." Barron Burris will be able to experience it all first-hand, thanks in large part to his father. Henry Burris threw for 371 yards and three TDs to rally Hamilton to a wild 36-24 win over the Toronto Argonauts in the East Division final Sunday. The Ticats will face the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Grey Cup on Sunday in Regina. Burriss oldest son Armand had the chance to experience a Grey Cup in 08 when Burris led the Calgary Stampeders to the CFL championship. But Barron wasnt yet born so this will be his first Grey Cup experience. Forget about the huge diamond ring or $16,000 winners share, seeing his youngest son soak it all in and being there to experience it with him is priceless for Burris. "Its all about giving your children and family an experience theyll never forget," Burris said after Sundays win, his voice cracking with emotion. "They go through all the sacrifices, being in the stands when people are getting after you saying all types of thinggs about their Daddy, this is what its all about at the end of the day.dddddddddddd "I told him I wanted to help make his dream come true for him one day and here we are now. This is truly amazing." Rallying Hamilton from a 24-10 deficit against Toronto also exorcised some demons for Burris. Named the CFLs outstanding player in 2010 with Calgary, Burris was replaced as starter the next year and dealt to Hamilton. Although Burris enjoyed the best season of his career in 2012 the Ticats struggled, posting a 6-12 record. The challenges continued in 2013 with a new head coach (Kent Austin), several new faces on the roster and the Ticats having to play all of their home games in Guelph, Ont., while a new stadium is being built. But Burris again led the CFL in passing as Hamilton posted a 10-8 record to finish second in the East and is off to the Grey Cup after stirring playoff wins over Montreal and Toronto. After Hamiltons wild comeback win over the Argos, Burris bent down and pounded the Rogers Centre turf furiously. "It just seemed like all the demons of the past four years, what an organization threw at me and all the people have thrown at me, I was just letting them go," Burris said. "I was pounding them into the ground. "To be able to come to another organization and help them rise from what we did a year ago to turn into a Grey Cup calibre team, this is what you dream about."
